I think it’s safe to say that no one was ready for the many curve balls the year 2020 has thrown at us. As a family, we had been preparing to spend a year (or two) traveling internationally. We sold our house in late 2019, moved many belongings into storage, and were patiently waiting to finish some large work projects so that we could take off in early April. And then…COVID. When we first found out about COVID, I was naive enough to think that maybe we could just hop a plane and get stuck in another country and still live out our travel dreams, but the same day we received the passports for our kids, the US banned travel to Europe. We weren’t sure what to do next. We had been mentally preparing to leave, and physically we were living out of boxes. Like everyone else in America, we spend most of March and April cooped up in our house, praying for things to get better.
Flash forward a few months and international travel still isn’t opened up, and it doesn’t look like it will happen anytime soon. Itching to get out of town, we decided to change our plans and explore our home country on the road. We have always wanted to live the van life, and actually had planned to do that after we travelled abroad. We took a huge leap of faith and bought a van!
We looked for a van that would meet our needs, seats and sleeping room for 5, but couldn’t find anything that was exactly what we wanted so we decided to start from scratch. We got a good deal on a 2019 Mercedes Sprinter 2500 – 170 Crew 4×4 van, and can’t wait to make it the van of our dreams!
The kids were so excited when we brought the van home. We have been talking about hitting the road all summer and can’t wait to finish the build!
Way cool! Some extremely valid points! I appreciate you penning this article and the rest of the site is really good. Gipsy Pepe Arlinda
